BAS recommends:
The M1918 was developed during World War I as an infantry support weapon. The concept of using the weapon envisaged shooting the enemy while advancing, but the soldiers preferred to use them as self-loading rifles. It did not enter the fighting until September 1918, but even so it is credited with a large share in the success of the Allied units during the Hundred Days Offensive at the very end of the war. The weapon was much lighter and more reliable than other Allied light machine guns. In the interwar period, the weapon was exported to many countries and licensed production took place in Belgium and Poland. Of course, its further development also took place. The M1918A1 version featured a folding bipod mounted in front of the handguard, but only a small number were produced. In 1938, the development of the final M1918A2 variant was started, which was to serve as a squad-level light machine gun. The weapon received a new shortened handguard, a folding and height-adjustable bipod on the barrel, a flash hider, a new adjustable rear sight, and instead of the classic modes of firing with single rounds and bursts, the weapon received two different rates of fire (400 and 600 rounds per minute). A carrying handle was also added during World War II. In this form, the weapon was still used by the American army in the wars in Korea and Vietnam, before it was replaced by the universal M60 machine gun.
This final version is now brought to you by S&T Armament. The metal body gives the weapon an almost realistic weight. The wooden stock and handuard are very pleasant in the hand. There is space for a battery in the stock. The collapsible bipod is height adjustable and can also be rotated around the barrel so it can easily adapt to the terrain. The folding rear sight is height and side adjustable. Overall, the weapon is suitable for both display as well as for airsoft game.
