BAS Recommends:
The design was developed as a universal machine gun for battalion-level units as well as for vehicle armament. The main designer was Mikhail Kalashnikov, who modified the mechanism of his assault rifle for the machine gun. The weapon was introduced into the Soviet Army in 1961. After experience from the service, a modernized lightweight version was introduced in 1969. At first glance, it differs by omitting the cooling fins on the barrel, the ribbed slide cover, the new trigger guard and the new stock butt.
A very nicely finished model of the PKM machine gun from A&K is made of steel and aluminum. The body and upper body cover, bipod and 5,000-round box magazine are made of steel, while other elements are made of zinc-aluminum alloy. The grip and stock are wooden.
The mechabox is of the M249 type with a QD system and fitted with 8mm steel ball bearings. The spring is placed on a reinforced spring guide, which is equipped with bearings. The replica is equipped with a Mosfet and a potentiometer that regulates the firing rate.
